Celebrity Trainer Shaun T’s INSANITY Workout

Following its success with P90X, Beachbody Fitness has released INSANITY, allegedly the “hardest workout program ever put on DVD,” late last year. In just 60 days, you will get in the best shape of your life – if you dig deep enough.

The madman behind INSANITY is Shaun T (creator of HipHop Abs), dancer and trainer, whose credits include: the musical of The Ten Commandments (original cast), Pippin, Applause, and Six Feet Under. He’s also worked with Mariah Carey, Aaron and Nick Carter, and Elephant Man.

The secret to INSANITY is: MAX Interval Training. Typically High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) involves a short period at full-out effort (e.g., 30 seconds) followed by a longer period of rest (e.g., 90 seconds). Well, MAX Interval training is just the opposite, say, 90 seconds at full-out effort with only 30 seconds of rest. By alternating between anaerobic and aerobic intervals you can easily expect to burn 1000 calories or more per hour.  For instance, an average 40- minute and 60-minute workout will easily burn 750+and 1000+ calories respectively for a 150-pound male – and that’s including about 10 minutes of stretching!

  • I completed both P90X and TRX Force last year, but after just 3 days of INSANITY, I can say that neither of those workouts compare with this insane workout. 57 days to go.

UPDATE: After some hold ups caused by work and being sick, I’ve continued INSANITY. Currently, I’m mid-way through the first week of Phase 2. Somehow, just somehow, things get even more INSANE!
