The Hugh Jackman Workout

We aren’t sure how Hugh Jackman didn’t make it on the list of fittest male celebs for 2009, but we are pretty sure he is one of Hollywood’s fittest actors.  Jackman’s preparation for his role as Wolverine in the latest X-Men film is legendary.

Let’s take a look at one of the workouts prepared by celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson that got Jackman ready for Wolverine this past summer.

Station A
(perform 8-12 reps of each exercise then move on to the next; complete 4 circuits of this station)

  1. Squat
  2. Dumbbell Step Ups (or Calf Raise Machine)
  3. Medicine Ball Chops
  4. Dumbbell Single-Arm Row (or Rear Deltoid Machine)
  5. Crunches - 20
  6. Step Ups – 15 steps per leg

Active Recovery – 2 minutes on Airdyne bike

Station B
(perform 8-12 reps of each exercise then move on to the next; complete 3 circuits of this station)

  1. Gorilla Pullups
  2. Standing Jump and Reach (or if possible, Vertimax jumps)
  3. Fat Bar Curls
  4. Jump Rope – 1 min

Active Recovery – 2 minutes on treadmill – incline at 2%, speed at 3-4 mph

Station C
(perform 8-12 reps of each exercise then move on to the next; complete 3 circuits of this station)

  1. Standing Cable Fly
  2. Standing Cable Press
  3. Standing Triceps Extension
  4. Wood Chops
  5. Push Press

Active Recovery – 2 minutes heavy punching bag
