Socialite and celebrity diet guru Nikki Haskell recently released a new diet product called StarShape Diet System. Although her previous weight-loss pills, StarCaps, were voluntarily recalled last year after NFL players tested positively for performance enhancing drugs, Nikki is giving the diet scene another try. StarShape Diet System is a 21 day plan consisting of one to two dietary supplements per day integrated with an online support program of diet tips, recipes and daily exercise routines. Nikki Haskell also creates recipes for her celebrity friends including Goldie Hawn, Joan Rivers, and Ivana Trump.

According to Nikki Haskell, “One of the best ways to curb hunger is to have good homemade soup in the house.” “In the fall and winter, I always keep a pot of soup on the stove, and I always service my famous cabbage soup at my parties. In fact, my friends often take advantage of my own little soup kitchen by sending over pots or glass containers and saying ‘fill them up!’”

She says, “Soup is really easy to make, and it’s the perfect way to fool your stomach, since it’s dietetic, very filling, and good for you. Make the soup and drink it in a small cup, like an espresso cup. Have it before lunch or dinner, at a party, or as a meal replacement.”

Nikki Haskell’s Sweet and Sour Cabbage Soup

  • 12 cups water
  • 5 small heads white cabbage
  • 6 cups yellow onions
  • 5 (1-lb) cans whole peeled tomatoes
  • 6-8 lemons
  • 1 bunch parsley, tied
  • 1 bunch dill, tied
  • 1 tbsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • ¼ cup sour salt to taste, found in specialty stores (may add more to taste)
  • 3 tbsp sugar substitute (may add more to taste)
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 6 beef bouillon cubes
  • 6-7 bay leaves
  • 1 tbsp basking soda (eliminates gassiness)

Pour the water into a large pot. Cut the cabbage in quarters. Add the onions cut in quarters and the tomatoes. Squeeze lemons. If you don’t have fresh lemons, use lemon concentrate. When the cabbage has cooked down, add the rest of the ingredients. Cover soup and cook till tender, about 1 ½ hours. Remove the bunch of parsley before serving.

The cabbage soup lasts at least 7 days and freezes great.
