raystevenson 00261640085 200x300 Ray Stevenson Prepares for Upcoming Roles workout routines role preparation celebrity workouts Ray Stevenson, known for his roles as Titus Pollo in the HBO Series Rome and as Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone has three new movies releasing in 2010, including The Book of Eli, which premiered this weekend.  In a recent interview with Men’s Fitness we learned that “Stevenson gets in shape for each role the way his character would, so for an upcoming part in a gangster bio-pick The Irishman, he channeled a muscle-head from the 70s.”

Stevenson also used total-body circuit training to prepare for his part alongside Denzel Washington in the post-apocalyptic flick The Book of Eli and will team up with fellow fit celebs Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg in the summer release of The Other Guys.

Last year, Stevenson told Best Life about the weights-free circuit workout he used to prepare for Punisher: War Zone and still have time to spend with his family and accommodate his busy travel schedule.  Here is a rundown of the workout:

  • 10 min warmup (stretching/running)
  • Max Pushups
  • Max Pullups
  • Max Dips
  • Max Body Weight Rows

Rest 30 seconds between each excessive and repeat the circuit 3 times.

Stevenson also says he doesn’t like running because it is hard on his joints so he incorporated a lot of hiking into his fitness plan saying, “As many as six times a week, I go for a fast-paced five-mile hike over steep terrain. Not only does hiking work my lungs, but it also strengthens my legs. To isolate my quads, I’ll walk up inclines backward for a few minutes until my muscles are absolutely screaming.”
