kara dioguardi bikini 1 300x253 American Idol Fitness with Kara DioGuardi fitness tips celebrity workouts celebrity fitness American Idol’s hottest judge Kara DioGuardi surprised all the show’s fans last season when during the finale she flashed her ripped body on stage, effectively one upping the contestant nicknamed “Bikini Girl.”

This season Idol has already featured several fit celebs as guest judges including Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne and Victoria Beckham, but our nod for best body goes to DioGuardi.  Here are some of her fitness tips…

Kara likes to box to burn the calories..
“In the ring, my trainer yells out the punches to me, ‘Jab, jab, hook, cross, uppercut,’ so I have to stay in the moment and be ready for anything,” Kara told Shape Magazine.  “That’s the same way the show is; I have to give feedback immediately after a performance.  I try to keep my comments respectful.  I was given a lot of chance in my career – the singers deserve the same.”

She isn’t into a strict diet…
“Dieting is not my thing. I’m an eater–an Italian who doesn’t eat is an outcast–but I do it in moderation. I make a special dish of vegetables and sausage with garlic and oil. If I want to get crazy, I make rice–lasagna, too,” she told Women’s Health.  She also doesn’t like to totally cut out the sweets, choosing to eat them in moderation to curb any urge to binge.

Her golden rules to staying fit…
“I drink lots of water and sleep eight hours a night.” says the Idol judge.  Keeping hydrated and getting plenty of rest will help your body to recover from workouts and leave you feeling energized throughout the day.

Kara also likes to take a relaxing weekend now and again, where she turns off her cell phone and all contact to the outside world to let her mind and body recoup.  Most of us don’t have the luxury of doing this, but if you can’t find even an hour per week to let your mind get away from the stress of the daily grind it can be greatly beneficial to your health.

Kara’s routine…
Three times per week Kara does 20 minutes of cardio and 40 minutes of weights with cardio. She mixes it up, doing everything from running stairs, to step ups, to the standard elliptical.
