Katy is also recognized for her hot body, and has a fun and accessible workout that anyone can try.

In order to workout for her grueling tours, Katy Perry enjoys jumping rope. She says, “I hate working out, but I love jumping rope.” “There’s a rhythm. It’s like dancing.” And Katy’s performance skills rival her jump roping skills. “I can double jump; I can cross. I can do all of it. I look like Rocky when I jump rope.”

Katy Perry jumps rope for up to half an hour straight and keeps herself going by listening to Madonna. “There’s so much to listen to but Madonna is so inspiring. She’s like the energizer bunny and one-ups everybody, and she’s 50. I think, wow, if you can do it, I can do it.”

Don’t worry if you don’t feel like Rocky when you jump rope, tricks are not required. Simply jumping rope at a fast pace can burn as many calories as running. A jump rope workout can tone your whole body – quads, calves, core, and shoulders – while also improving your coordination. All you need is a jump rope.

Try these tips from Health.com to get the most out of your jump rope workout:

  • High knees: While jumping rope, raise 1 knee up as high as you can, then repeat with other knee. Alternate for 1 minute. Think about raising your knees to your nose.
  • Side-to-side: Begin with 1 minute of traditional rope jumping. Continue jumping, but hop laterally from right to left  for 1 minute. Focus on a point in front of you to stay balanced.
  • Twist: Begin with 1 minute of traditional rope jumping. Continue jumping for 1 minute more, but begin twisting at the waist, keeping your upper body straight while pivoting your legs to the right and then the left with each jump. Make sure to twist only below the waist.
  • Figure eights: Fold jump rope in half and hold in both hands. Swing rope to right side of your body with arms extended, then to your left, creating a figure eight pattern. Repeat continuously for 2 minutes. Keep your abs tight and make the figure eights as large as possible.
  • Hopscotch: Lay 2 jump ropes on the floor in an X. Begin standing with both feet in 1 of the sections, facing the jump ropes. Bend your knees and jump forward, landing in a squat position with 1 foot in each of the next 2 sections. Jump forward again, landing with both feet in a squat in the last section. Turn around, and repeat. Go back and forth as quickly as you can for 2 minutes.
