Mario Lopez has had an action packed week. He resumed his hosting duties on Thursday night with the start of the 5th season of America’s Best Dance Crew. Tonight he is hosting the Miss America Pageant on TLC.
Known for his role as Bayside High’s most popular jock A.C. Slater, Lopez has always been in great shape. His fame has sky rocketed in recent years, a direct result of his appearance in the 2006-2007 season of Dancing With the Stars.
“If you’re not having fun, you’ll never stick with it. That’s Mario’s rule of fitness,” he says. “I like to mix it up because I don’t want to get bored. You keep your muscles guessing, and you stay motivated,” says the 36 year old. He swims, bikes, plays basketball, boxes, and does yoga.
Lopez told TV Guide, “I never feel awake unless I’m sweating.”
Mario doesn’t count calories but he admits to being a grazer. His sample day of eating for him consists of fruit, yogurt and granola for breakfast, chicken and rice for lunch and sushi for dinner. His favorite cheat meals are rocky-road ice cream and chocolate chip cookies.
Pick up Lopez’s book Knockout Fitness for a challenging program to get you lean and ripped. The three phase program can be completed in six weeks if you are at a more advanced fitness level or can be expanded to 12 weeks for those just breaking into a workout routine. Here’s an overview of the three phases:
Phase 1 “Priming the Pump” – body weight and simple lifts to get your body prepared for the rest of the program.
Phase 2 “Fueling the Fire” – more demanding and challenging moves to build muscle and burn fat at the same time.
Phase 3 ” Maxing it Out” – adds instabilty to the workouts to really challenge your muscles and improve your overall strength.
Boxer Oscar De la Hoya says, “I could prepare for a title fight using the principles underlying Knockout Fitness.” Now that’s a ringing endorsement.
