Like her Glee co-star Lea Michele, Naya Rivera always looks fantastically fit on her hit musical comedy. Naya Rivera plays Santana, the manipulative and promiscuous Cheerio and glee club member. Although her character is a bit mean-spirited, the real-life star claims she is more like the Gleeks.

She recently told Fitness magazine, “In high school I was most like Artie and Rachel. I knew what I wanted, like Rachel, although I wasn’t as obnoxious. But like Artie, I was a nerd, always trying to fit in and get my hair to lie flat.”

Also like her Glee co-stars, Naya Rivera gets in a workout during her Glee rehearsals. The cast works 14 to 16 hour days, which includes mastering high-energy dance routines. Check out what else the Glee star told Fitness magazine about her workout and diet!

Playing a Cheerio on Glee requires a LOT of time in a cheerleading uniform. In order to look and feel great in her costume, Naya Rivera focuses on toning her legs. She says, “Legs and butt get the most attention in the Cheerios uniform, so those are my target areas. Lots of squats!”

Like many women, Naya Rivera also desires a flat stomach. This requires a commitment to ab work. But she says she could live without crunches. ”I hate crunches. I do planks — traditional and side planks — instead for my abs.” Planks are a great way to tone your core and arms! Sounds like a great compromise to me.

As far as diet is concerned, Naya Rivera did not have much to say. It is unclear whether she is a vegan like her Glee co-stars Diana Agron and Lea Michele, but she did list some vegan snacks as her favorite diet staples while on the road. The actress says, “When we did the Glee Live tour, I had to have hummus and guacamole on hand for healthy snacks.” Guacamole is perfect for healthy fat and hummus provides a punch of protein from the garbanzo beans. Combined with veggies instead of chips, and you have a healthy bite!
